Year One Evaluation

At the beginning of the year, I found myself slightly lost when it came to ideas and techniques I wanted to investigate more. I definitely had a lot of weak areas also, the main one being time management, as between 3 A-level subjects I struggled to manage all three conveniently, I found myself focusing on art a lot, as I found the workload quite heavy, but as the year progressed I found it easier to manage as a spent my time more wisely. I began focusing on planning my work as soon as the task was given, a good example of this is the unit one journey project. When we first got the task I was confused on what to do, as I'd always taken art quite literally in the past, so I thought of doing something to do with biology and evolution, but settled on doing something quite personal and emotional relating to my great-grandad and his journey from Burma to Assam, but he failed to make it. Before we started that unit,  we did a lot of workshops which helped with developing techniques, doing printing, mark making and textiles. I found learning more about mark making quite interesting as I'd never considered how different marks can convey different emotions, and this made me what to focus more on bringing more emotion into my work instead of being so literal like in the unit one journey.
Following on from the Unit one, we did more workshops focusing in more on our techniques to help us develop into our next project which was the textiles project. We did some workshops of more printing and also on collages which I found super helpful as it helped me play around with different techniques before I settle for the one I want to develop.
Throughout the year I found myself going back to textiles and embriodery, as I find it so versitile and it can be applied in many different ways, to give different effects, it can be neat or messy. I also found the during the textiles project I wanted to work more on photography and incororating it into my work, I think this is also due to how much I enjoyed working on the mixed media sketchbook on the Unit one project.
Next year I'm looking forward to focusing more on photography and incororating it more into my work, using different cameras and differnt techniques to capture things that interest me and incorporate them into my work. I found the sellotape tranferes very effective and would maybe like to use some of my own photography to turn into tranfers or work into them in layers, depending on what the tasks will be in second year.
I found the textiles project very interesting as I think I've learnt that I work well with it and I'd like to develop my techniques further, as at the beginning of the year I started off just sewing on fabrics, and then moved on to sewing on canvases, then for the textiles project I did embriodery onto my own photos as I found it quite effective, and emotional too. I'd like to work more on working into photos, maybe using embriodery but also paints, and other techniques such as printing and sellotape transfers to add more layers to my work. I'd also like to continue to incorporate more emotions into my work, focusing on peoples mental health and emotions and how they can change. Similar to my textiles project which showed how peoples emotions on the outside dont nessaceraly match the inside, and how anxiety can take over someones body to quickly, and how this can all relate back to body language and facial expressions.
Next year I intend to work more on textiles and photography, and I hope to use my blog more throughout my developments to help me reflect as I go along, as opposed to doing all the work in sketcbooks and at the end of a project reflecting on blog, as I think reflecting as I go along will help me develop my more more thoughrouly.
