During these workshop sessions, we did two separate things, the first was collages using materials we found on a walk, and the other was printing.
Collages
The first workshop we went on a walk through the park, to study the textures which could inspire us for some experiments. I collected mostly leaves, and some daisies to incorporate into my experiments. Whilst out, I took some photos of some textures which interested me:
| The sharp edges of the leaves and the few in focus add depth, and the leaves are arranged in very neatly in rows. |
| The earthy colours of the tree bark mixed with the layers it creates adds a layered effect, which could look interesting in a collage. |
| The shininess of the wax on this leaf I found quite inspiring to create a reflective collage |
| This photo interested me as its mostly shades of beige but layers can be seen, also the weathering as the layers are peeling away. |
For my collages, I first wanted to do one inspired by the shiny leaf I saw, photographed above. I used some mirrored card in which I created a frame around the outside like a picture frame, and because the mirrored card was blurred, it allowed for the viewers silhouette to be seen in the middle of the piece.
| The first piece I did, before it had chance to dry and the glue to go clear. |
The above collage once dry, the glue has dried clear so the leaves and flowers just look like they're floating, and the drips of glue add texture to the overall piece.
The next piece I did was a concertina using cardboard, the rough texture around the edges gives the piece a more organic feel, and I lined the objects up to create fluidity throughout the piece.
| This was the final piece I created in response to the walk, I just glued some leaves onto paper, but I wasn't to happy with the outcome of this as it didnt look very natural, whereas the other 2 pieces do. |
